Welcome to the site for FOCC Stoke

The Friends of Chernobyl's Children bring groups of children to the UK every year for four weeks. The children come from Belarus, from an area that was severely affected by radiation from the Chernobyl Nuclear disaster in 1986. Levels of background radiation remain high in the area, as do associated illnesses.

The children come to the UK to get access to fresh air, fresh food and plenty of exercise. They stay with a local family who provide them with care and attention and everything else they need during their stay in the UK.

It costs £450 in transport and administrative fees to bring each child over. The host families also provide clothing and a supply of vitamins for the children, and the group arranges for each child to have a visit to a dentist and an optician whilst here.

The Stoke-on-Trent group consists currently of 12 children, although we are in need of a couple of host families to ensure that all the children are able to come on the next visit. The host families come from all over the local area, including Newcastle, Stafford and of course Stoke-on-Trent.

We hold regular fundraising events which can be found in the Events page. We are always keen to hear from  people who are willing to help us.
